Description
The Japanese Self-Defense Force Navy New FFM is an enlarged version of the FFM combat vessel with similar overall performance. Japan plans call for the procurement of 12 ships beginning in 2028 at a rate of two frigates commissioned annually. In August 2025, Australia selected the upgraded Mogami class frigate with 11 ships to be commissioned beginning in 2030. In April 2026, Australia ordered the first three Upgraded Mogami frigates under a $7 billion deal.
