Description
The AN/APY-9 is an airborne early warning (AEW) radar system operating in the UHF band, manufactured by Lockheed Martin in the United States. It is integrated into the Northrop Grumman E-2D Advanced Hawkeye aircraft, housed within a 24-foot (7.3 m) diameter rotating radome. The radar's antenna, which rotates at 6 revolutions per minute, consists of a horizontally polarized array of Yagi antennas of varying lengths, providing an instrumented range of 350 nautical miles (approximately 650 km). Beyond mechanical rotation, the system features electronic slewing, enabling enhanced illumination of specific sectors or more precise tracking of individual targets.
