Description

The Doha is a new class of multi-purpose corvette designed and built by Fincantieri shipyard in Italy for the Qatar Emiri Naval Forces under a 4 billion Euro deal signed in 2016. The ship’s design is compliant with RINAMIL rules to conduct surveillance, search and rescue (SAR) and fighting missions. The propulsion system consists of a Combined Diesel and Diesel (CODAD) arrangement allowing a top speed of 28 knots. The 107 meters long corvette can accommodate a crew of 98-man with 14 additional passengers. The ship is provided with a flight deck and hangar for a single NH90 NFH helicopter. It can operate high-speed rigid hull inflatable boats (RHIB). The weapon system is expected to include Exocet MM40 Block 3 anti-ship missiles, Aster 30 Block 1 surface-to-air missiles and VL Mica air defense system. Fincantieri started the construction of the first of four vessels on July 30, 2018.
