Description
The Indian Air Force (IAF) Ashwini is a Low Level Transportable Radar (LLTR) is a 4D, active array technology, multifunctional radar being developed to pinpoint with outstanding accuracy highly maneuverable targets. In addition to the range, azimuth and height, the new radar provides the velocity vector of the incoming target. The Ashwini radar provides situational awareness against high-speed fighter aircraft at ranges of 200 kilometers. The IAF plans call for the procurement of 18 such radars as a follow-on to the Rohini radar system. The new radar underwent trials beginning in 2014 and entered service roughly in 2018.
