Description

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) program is aimed at delivering 14 such boats designed and built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited and to be delivered within 63 months. These vessels are intended for enhancing fisheries protection and monitoring, control and surveillance, anti-smuggling operations, search and rescue operations including in shallow waters, assistance to ships in distress, towing capabilities, assistance and monitoring during marine pollution response operations, anti-piracy operations. Each FPV will be equipped with multipurpose drones, wirelessly controlled remote water rescue craft lifebuoy and AI capability. The shipyard was awarded a Rs 1,070 crore ($130 million) contract in January 2024. The first vessel should be commissioned in 2026 and the last one in 2029.
