The GBU-28 is a special bomb developed for penetrating bunkers located deep underground. GBU-28 consists of a modified tube of artillery fitted with an added laser guidance package, the same used on the GBU-27 bomb. The GBU-28 fulfils the requirements of the US Air Force for penetrating Iraqi bunkers located deep underground during the Gulf war in 1991. The GBU-28 can penetrate more than six meters of concrete or more than 30 meters of earth. The GBU-28 bunker-buster bomb armed with the BLU-113 penetrator warhead has been employed during Desert Storm (1991) and Enduring Freedom (2002) military operations, over Iraq and Afghanistan respectively.
