The constellation may include up to 600 satellites providing Electro-Optical (EO) and radar-based imagery in all-weather conditions along with Gonets-M communications satellites intended to provide broadband communications across Asia and Russia’s Nord Sea route. The first satellite (Skif-D constellation) was placed into orbit in October 2022 with initial operational capability planned for early 2023. The Sfera constellation is expected to achieve full operational capability and coverage by 2030.
