Description

The Chakri Nareubet is a small V/STOL aircraft carrier with secondary amphibious assault capability. It was built in Spain by IZAR, formerly Bazan, for the Navy of Thailand. This vessel is also suitable for disaster relief, and other mission profiles in support of Thailand's population. This aircraft carrier was equipped with six AV-8S V/STOL Harriers bought to Spain, and four SH-60B helicopters. Additionally, the vessel was provided with Mistral surface-to-air missiles to provide short-range defense against airborne threats. The Navy of Thailand take delivery of Chakri Nareubet aircraft carrier in 1997. Due to lack of funds its operational status remains dubious.
