Description

The Tu-160M2 is a further development of the Tu-160 strategic bomber with state-of-the-art sensors and weapons. Basically, the Tu-160M2 is a radical upgrade that will represent new specifications and new capabilities more in accordance with a new aircraft. Serial production of the new Tu-160M2 strategic bomber is slated to begin after 2023. The Russian Air Force may procure 50 bombers or more following estimates released in May 2015. The first production order for the new bomber was signed on January 25, 2018. Worth 160 billion Rubles the order is for 10 aircraft plus 37 billion Rubles for re-opening of the assembly line. The first functional Tu-160M2 is expected to be delivered to the Russian Air Force in 2021. Three more aircraft will be delivered in 2023-2024. The Russian Air Force is expected to get 10 Tu-160M2 bombers by 2027 with all remaining Tu-160 and T-160M bombers to be upgraded to the M2 standard by 2030.
