Description
The AN/BPS-15 is a low-power surface search and navigation radar designed for U.S. nuclear-propelled submarines, operating in the X-band (IEEE designation) or I-band (NATO designation) within the frequency range of 8,795 to 8,855 MHz. Developed in the early 1960s, it utilizes a 40-inch horn-array antenna with a 3° beamwidth, rotating at 9.5 revolutions per minute. The radar transmits with a peak power of 35 kW and an average power of 13 W, offering a range resolution of 30 meters through pulsewidths of 0.1 or 0.5 microseconds and pulse repetition frequencies of 1,500 or 750 Hz.
