Description

The Nexter Aravis is a high mobility 4x4 protected multi-mission vehicle intended for land forces in scenarios such as Iraq and Afghanistan. This 12-ton vehicle can be airlifted by C-130, A400M and C-17 aircraft. Its design focuses on countering Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), ballistic threats and mines. The Aravis features level 4 ballistic protection against 14.5mm ballistic threats; level 4 mine protection countering 10kg mines detonating under the belly and wheels; and level 4 artillery splinters protection defeating 155mm artillery threats. It accommodates a permanent crew of two-man and up to six fully equipped troops. In addition to the passive armor protection, the vehicle can be equipped with a remote weapon station such as ARX 20. The Aravis armored vehicle was unveiled at Eurosatory 2008. The French Army placed the first order for the Aravis on April 24, 2009. This order was for 15 vehicles valued at 15 million Euro and to be delivered at the end of 2009.
