Arbalet

The Russian Army Arbalet is an advanced short range air defense system expected to enter service in the 2030-2035 timeframe. This new air defense system will be deployed along front-line forces equipped with heavy and medium armored vehicles. Therefore it is expected that the Arbalet will feature a tracked armored chassis while being able to fire on-the-move against a wide variety of airborne threats. Some reports suggest that the Arbalet will be a derivative of the Sosna air defense system. It is also possible that the new weapon system will utilize high energy lasers to take down aerial targets. The existence of the new missile system was revealed in early 2017 and the first prototype is expected to start testing in the 2021-2025 period.
