Description

The GBU-69/B is a Small Glide Munition (SGM) designed by Dynetics to meet the requirements of the US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM). This small bomb weighing 60-pound only will be released by AC-130 gunship aircraft as well as unmanned air vehicles (UAVs). The guidance system is based upon a nose-mounted semi-active laser seeker with control fins taken from existing Russian designs and also employed on the GBU-43/B and GBU-57A/B bombs. The weapon features a 36-lb blast fragmentation warhead detonated by impact or a given height through a burst sensor. Its modularity allows for integration of a variety of seekers and warheads. Its main advantage is that provides a precision, stand-off, strike capability with reduced collateral damage. The new weapon development started in 2013. The USSOCOM is expected to order 3,600 GBU-69/B Stand-Off Precision Guided Munitions (SOPGMs) before the end of 2018.
