AMX-10RC

AMX-10RC is a 6x6 amphibious wheeled armored vehicle intended for reconnaissance missions in support of cavalry units within the French Armed Forces. It was designed in the 1970s as a replacement for French Army's Panhard EBR armored vehicle which entered service in the 1950s. AMX-10RC was fitted with a 105mm cannon as primary armament and a 7.62mm coaxial machine gun. Powered by a diesel engine rated at 260-hp this high mobility vehicle reaches a top speed of 85 kph. AMX-10RC development began in 1971 achieving Initial Operational Capability (IOC) with the French Army in 1979. It was equipped with an state-of-the-art fire control system combining laser designator, low light TV and a ballistic computer for enhanced accuracy. Originally, it was deployed in support of AMX30 Main Battle Tanks (MBTs). In the late 1990s AMX30s were retired from active service leaving Leclerc as the French Army's MBT. Currently, AMX10RCs are complementing Leclerc MBTs in the French Army's armored units.
