Description

The Indonesian Navy (TNI-AL) Diponegoro-class corvettes are a derivative of Royal Schelde Naval Shipbuilding's SIGMA ship design. SIGMA design is based on extensive modularity offering flexibility to the user along with reduced life cycle cost. The four Diponegoro-class corvettes are fitted with a comprehensive combat and communications system and the Thales Tacticos combat management system. These ships are well suited for maritime search and patrol operations in the Indonesian territorial waters. Basic missions are protection of exclusive economic zone (EEZ), deterrence, search and rescue (SAR) and anti-submarine warfare (ASW). The Indonesian Navy commissioned the first ship in July 2007 with the fourth scheduled in March 2009. These corvettes are equipped with one 76mm dual purpose super rapid gun, Exocet anti-ship missiles, Tetral Mistral-based short-range surface-to-air missile (SAM) system, 2 B515 trainable torpedo launchers and two 20mm guns. The sensor array comprises MW08 3D air surveillance radar, LIROD Mk2 fire control radar, and Kingklip hull mounted sonar. Besides, these ships are provided with decoy launchers and ESM/ECM facilities. The aft flight deck and refueling facilities allow operation of a single medium-lift helicopter at day/night with a maximum weight of 5t. The propulsion system consists of two diesel engines each developing 8910 KW with two shafts and passive roll stabilization.
