Description

The Russian Navy Project 23120 represents a new class of combat logistics support ship capable of operations in icy waters including navigation with 0.6 meters of ice thick. These ships have been designed to carry dry cargo, fresh water and ammunition to remote locations and/or the open sea as well as other secondary missions such as search and rescue (SAR), medical ship, disaster relief and towing other vessels. The propulsion system consists of four diesel engines in a Combined Diesel and Diesel (CODAD) arrangement and developing 17.8MW of power. The propulsion system allows a top speed of 18 knots with the ability of crossing distances of up to 5,000 nautical miles (9,000+ kilometers). Three ships were ordered by the Russian Navy to be commissioned by 2020.
