AGM-158A JASSM

The US Air Force has ordered 3,700 AGM-158A JASSM missiles (previously planned procurement was about 2,400 JASSMs) and the US Navy intends to acquire up to 453 (450 missiles according to Lockheed-Martin) JASSMs for use on the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet aircraft starting in fiscal year 2007. The US Air Force has planned to integrate JASSM on the F-16, B-1, B-2 and B-52 aircraft. The total number of JASSMs to be produced for the US military according to 2003 plans was 4,153 until 2014. As of 2004, the US Air Force announced that it expected to procure up to 4,900 JASSMs (2,400 JASSMs and 2,500 JASSM-ERs) over the life of the program. Thus the total estimated number of JASSMs (all-model) by the US military forces stands at 5,350 missiles through at least 2018 as of December 2004. On November 22, 2004, the US Air Force awarded Lockheed-Martin Lot 4 JASSM production contract worth $112 million which funded production of 288 missiles. This contract marks the beginning of the full rate production for JASSM missile. Lot 1 and lot 2 began in 2001 and concluded by the end of 2004. Lot 3 began in 2003 with deliveries planned for January 2005. In late 2004, Lockheed-Martin expanded Troy facilities, where the missile is being assembled, to support production rates of up to 40 missiles/month by mid-2005. Lot 5 production contract valued at $79.5 million was awarded in March 2006 for 70 JASSM missiles. On March 2, 2006, the Australian Ministry of Defense announced the AGM-158 JASSM standoff weapon as the preferred solution for its Air 5418 program thus becoming the first export customer. The Royal Australian Air Force was expected to use its newest weapon on the F/A-18 aircraft dropping out the JASSM integration on the venerable F-111 which was due for retirement. In the long term the Australian JASSM weapon may be integrated onto the F-35 aircraft which Australia was studying to buy as many as 100 aircraft. According to Lockheed Martin first missiles deliveries were slated for 2009.
