J/FPS-5

The J/FPS-5 is a fixed, long-range 3D air surveillance radar designed for air defense, operational since 2006. Its rotatable base supports two distinct active phased array antennas, earning it the nickname "Sea Turtle" due to the characteristic shape of its protective radomes. The larger L-band antenna is optimized for warning against and tracking ballistic missiles, while the smaller S-band (IEEE designation) or E/F-band (NATO designation) antenna is used for detecting and tracking aerodynamic targets, with an instrumented range of 1,800 km.
