Description

The HOPE/HOSPO is a family of guided glide missiles being developed by Diehl BGT Defense for the German Air Force to engage ground, sea and underground targets. The missile family is based upon modular design which allows to re-utilize the same assemblies in different missile variants. Their key design requirements are extreme precision, all-weather and ECM resistance. The guidance system combines GPS/INS navigation with electro-optical seekers. The aerodynamic design focuses on high maneuverability as well as on extended range. The German Air Force plans for integration of the HOPE/HOSBO missiles on Tornado and Eurofighter manned aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) beginning in 2010. These medium-range weapons are intended to allow non-stealth fighters, such as Eurofighter, to achieve the same degree of combat effectiveness of stealth aircraft delivering short-range weapons above heavily protected targets.
