MUX

The Marine Air Ground Task Force Unmanned Aircraft System-Expeditionary (MUX) is a new heavyweight unmanned air vehicle designed to meet the requirements of the US Marine Corps (USMC). The aircraft is expected to carry a payload of 9,500-pounds (4,800 kg) both internally and externally over ranges of 700 nautical miles (+1,200 kilometers) providing close air support. Besides, the MUX would be able to takeoff and landing vertically. The weapon options of the MUX would include the AGM-114 Hellfire, APKWS II laser-guided rockets, AGM-88E anti-radiation missiles, AIM-9X air-to-air missiles and a small UAV that will be delivered in-flight providing early warning (AEW) and electronic warfare (EW) capabilities. The USMC launched the MUX program in early 2018 with a maiden flight expected in 2025, first shipborne flight in 2028 and initial operational capability (IOC) slated for 2034. In early 2026, the USMC selected Northrop Grumman and Kratos to develop the MUX aircraft based upon the Valkyrie strike drone.
