Description
The DF-5B, CSS-4B East Wing Western designation, is a three-stage, liquid-fueled, silo-based intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) developed by China. It has a maximum range of more than 12,000 kilometers and a maximum speed of Mach 23-25 in the vacuum. At the stratosphere and troposphere, the DF-5B nuclear warheads fly at Mach 13-15 (150 kilometers of altitude). The DF-5B seems to use a suppressed ballistic trajectory to avoid missile defense interception. Each nuke has a yield of 3-4 Megatons and uses astroinertial navigation with Beidou satellite navigation corrections. The missile can carry up to 10 warheads but only three are carried along many decoys to counter US missile defenses.
