Description
The GLSDB II is an evolution of the Ground Launched Small Diameter Bomb (GLSDB) replacing the GBU-39/B bomb payload by the GBU-53/B StormBreaker tri-mode guided bomb. Raytheon is developing the GLSDB 2 weapon which may feature a new propulsion system with increased range and accuracy. The StormBreaker guidance system does not rely on the GPS and therefore is resistant to jamming. Besides, the tri-mode guidance system will allow to engage a wide variety of targets including moving targets. Flight trials are expected to start in the summer of 2025 with the new weapon system entering service in the 2027-2029 timeframe.
