Description

The Tornado-G is a new multiple rocket launch system (MLRS) developed as the replacement for the Grad and Uragan rocket artillery systems in service with the Russian Army. The Tornado-G artillery system fires up to 12 300mm rockets aided by the GLONASS system to achieve outstanding accuracy with a maximum range of 90 kilometers. The system also features improved effectiveness, automated control and aiming compared with existing Russian rocket artillery systems. Recent reports suggest that the maximum range is 40 kilometers firing 122mm rockets with the whole system being similar to 6x6 truck-mounted Grad system. The Tornado-G entered service with the Russian Army in April 2011. The Russian Army plans to deploy 30 Tornado-G systems by 2012 replacing only the BM-21 Grad rocket system.
