Description

The AN/TPQ-47 Phoenix Battlefield Sensor System (PBS²) was an S-band battlefield radar designed for weapon location, specifically as a ground counter-mortar tactical radar. Developed by ThalesRaytheonSystems in the United States, it was an advanced derivative of the AN/TPQ-37 Firefinder radar, intended to replace the AN/TPQ-37(V). This computer-controlled, electronically scanned system utilized a fence of pencil-shaped beams, sweeping a 90-degree horizon sector several times per second, with a beamwidth of 0.9° in azimuth and 0.6° in elevation, and an instrumented range of 300 km. Two prototype systems were produced through 2004 before the program was canceled in 2005.
