Description

The Japan Marine Self Defense Force (JMSDF) Hirashima-class of minesweepers, also known as Hatsushima class, have been designed to clean waterways of mines in support of naval forces operating in the open sea. The 570-ton vessel is fitted with a propulsion system allowing a top speed of 14 knots. The propulsion system consists of two diesel engines developing 2,200-shp. The vessel is equipped with a 20mm gun and minesweeping equipment. The JMSDF commissioned three vessels of this class in the second half of the first decade of the 21st century.
