Description

The AN/FPQ-6 is a C-band Missile Precision Instrumentation Radar (MIPIR) developed by Martin Marietta, designed for fixed installations. Operating within the 5,400 to 5,900 MHz frequency range, it tracks intercontinental ballistic missiles to provide range safety and trajectory measurement data. This radar, a successor to the AN/FPS-16, features a 29-foot (8.8-meter) Cassegrain antenna with a 51 dB gain and utilizes a klystron tube for its 3 MW peak power transmitter. With an instrumented range of 32,000 nautical miles (approximately 60,000 km) and an accuracy of ±1.8 meters, five units were built between 1958 and 1964; an air-transportable version, the AN/FPQ-18, has an operating distance of 1,100 km.
