Description

The L-159 is an improved variant adding western technology, avionics and weapons to the L-39 Albatros aircraft. It is powered by a Honeywell F124-GA-100 turbofan engine rated at 6,300 pounds of thrust. L-159A Advanced Light Combat Aircraft (ALCA) is a single-seat light multi-role combat aircraft equipped with FIAR Grifo L pulse Doppler radar system. ALCA is equipped with air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles as well as laser guided bombs. The Czech Republic Air Force ordered 72 L-159As which were delivered between 2000 through 2004. The first aircraft entered service in 2003. In February 2006 Aero and the Czech Ministry of Defense signed two logistics support contracts for the L-159 fleet through 2029.
