Description

The Arrow weapon system has been designed to counter incoming theater ballistic missiles threatening strategic assets as well as population centers. The system meets the specific requirements of Israel but its modular architecture allows to be adapted to further scenarios. The Arrow system detects, intercepts and destroys TBMs employing the ARROW II missile/interceptor. It is able to counter multiple incoming TBMs with low and high interception capability. The Arrow system can also provide early warning, target identification, and launch and impact points prediction. The system is interoperable with other defense systems and transportable but not mobile. The Arrow system includes the EL/M-2080 radar, the Arrow II missile, the Arrow launcher with 6 Arrow II missiles per unit, and launch/fire control centers. Basically the Launch Control Center (LCC) provides communications and system diagnosis, while the Fire Control Center (FCC) manages all the stages of the TBM engagement. In 2004, Israel and the United States jointly started the Arrow System Improvement Program (ASIP) with a series of tests at Point Mugu, California, simulating realistic scenarios in the Middle East and involving ballistic targets provided by the MDA. In late August 2004, two tests had been completed successfully with all the objectives achieved as expected.
