Description

The AN/APG-83 Scalable Agile Beam Radar (SABR) is an X-band active electronically scanned array (AESA) multi-function and fire control radar manufactured by Northrop Grumman in the United States. Designed to replace the AN/APG-66 and AN/APG-68, it features enhanced processor and transmission power, more sensitive receiver electronics, and an instrumented range of 200 nautical miles (370 km). The AN/APG-83 also incorporates an infrared signature, Advanced Interference Blanker Units, and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) for high-resolution ground mapping from extended distances, alongside improved air target detection range, processing speed, and memory. The radar has been installed on U.S. Air Force F-16s, and Northrop Grumman is contracted to supply 142 systems for the Taiwan Air Force F-16 upgrade program.
