AN/SLQ-32(V)6 and (V)7 Electronic Warfare System
The AN/SLQ-32 Electronic Warfare (EW) System, also known as Sidekick, is an electronic countermeasures system manufactured by Northrop Grumman in the United States. Designed to provide robust protection for small and mid-size surface ships against radar-guided anti-ship missiles, the system operates across the S-band to K-band frequencies. Its core technology includes a Rotman-lens fed multi-beam array, which generates high continuous wave jamming power, enabling a wide array of jamming techniques. The AN/SLQ-32(V)5 variant introduced active jamming capabilities with smaller, lighter, solid-state components, while the AN/SLQ-32C(V)6 is a scaled-down version of the Surface Electronic Warfare Improvement Program (SEWIP) system. The (V)6 variant, tested on the USS Freedom (LCS 1) in December 2014, features upgraded antennas, receivers, and combat system interfaces to enhance signal detection, measurement accuracy, classification, and mitigate electromagnetic interference, addressing new threats. The AN/SLQ-32(V)1 was first deployed by the U.S. Navy in 1974 on frigates and landing platform docks (LPDs).
