Description

The 51T6, also known as SH-11 Gorgon and ABM-4, is a three-stage solid fuel missile with a range of 300-400 kilometers and a nuclear warhead yielding more than one Megaton. The missile is deployed and launched from underground silo. The 51T6 interceptor is intended to kill incoming ballistic missiles at very high altitudes outside the atmosphere (exo-atmospheric). The missile was first deployed in the 1980s within the A-135 anti-ballistic missile (ABM) defense system in Moscow. After the collapse of the Soviet Union the A-135 missile system was put offline. As of November 2014 the system was back operational with interceptors being tested.
