Description

The SH5 is a high mobility, air-transportable truck-mounted howitzer developed by NORINCO for the export market and potentially for the People's Liberation Army (PLA). The SH5 consists of a 105mm 52-caliber gun mounted on a 6x6 light armored truck chassis which can accommodate up to 40 rounds. The vehicle is fitted with a central tire inflation system (CTIS) and provides with excellent off-road mobility powered by a 160 kW diesel engine with a maximum on-road speed of 100 kilometers per hour. The SH5 truck has a turning diameter of less than 13 meters. The 105mm cannon can fire projectiles at ranges of 18.2 km. A fully loaded SH5 weighs 11 tons, carries 40 rounds and can fire up to eight rounds per minute. The whole system can be ready to fire a round in 45 seconds. Basically, the SH5 is the Chinese counterpart to the Netherlands MOBAT 105mm light artillery system.
