Description

The AN/TPS-63 is an L-band (1225-1400 MHz) tactical air defense and air traffic control (ATC) radar, manufactured by Northrop Grumman in the United States. It features a digital Moving Target Indication (MTI) system with a four-pulse canceller and variable pulse intervals, effectively eliminating radar blind speeds and distinguishing moving aircraft from ground clutter. An additional digital three-pulse MTI weather canceller and digital constant false alarm rate (CFAR) processing provide robust performance against heavy rainfall and chaff. Electronic Counter-Countermeasures (ECCM) capabilities include frequency agility, pulse repetition frequency (PRF) staggering, and pulse coding. The system, which can be deployed by a four-person team within an hour, is housed in a single shelter with its sectional 4.9 x 5.5 meter antenna mounted on top, and is available with a solid-state transmitter; an integrated secondary radar utilizes the primary radar's antenna.
