Description

Golan is an advanced, highly survivable, wheeled protected combat vehicle developed in cooperation between Protected Vehicle Inc. (PVI) of the USA and Rafael of Israel to effectively respond to a wide spectrum of threats specially those related to the urban environment. The vehicle features extensive blast and ballistic protection, and US commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) automotive components provided by Protected Vehicle. Rafael provided the roof-mounted RCWS weapon station, Insensitive Explosive Reactive Armor (IERA), and C4ISR integration. Golan's armored chassis design focuses on survivability against mines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) blasts while providing outstanding protection against small arms and up to 14.5mm armor piercing (AP) fire and even rocket propelled grenades (RPGs). RCWS provides persistent engagement capability against the enemy with the vehicle's crew protected under armor. Golan was introduced in early October 2006. It is being evaluated by the Israel Defense Forces and the US military to provide support in the fight against terrorism and combat operations. The United States Marine Corps awarded the first production order for the Golan medium protected vehicle on February 28, 2007. The contract was issued as part of the Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) initiative launched in support of the Global War on Terror (GWOT). The contract called for the production of 60 Alpha and Golan light and medium protected vehicles.
