Description

The Su-75 LTS (Light Combat Aircraft) or Checkmate is a fifth-generation, single-engine multirole tactical fighter developed by Sukhoi based upon the technologies and engineering solutions used on the Su-57 stealth fighter. The fighter is powered by the same engine powering the twin-engine Su-57 with enhanced maneuverability thanks 3D thurst vectoring control (TVC) and the smaller airframe of the Checkmate. The airframe has been optimized for very short takeoff and landing operations but not vertical. The aircraft can reach a top speed of 2.2 Mach, supercruise of 1.8 Mach, has a maximum range of 3,000 kilometers and can carry a payload of up to 7,000 kilograms. Sukhoi expects to provide the LTS in three versions: manned, unmanned and twin-seat. The new Checkmate was unveiled during the MAKS Airshow in Moscow on July 20, 2021. The first flight is expected to be carried out within 2023 and is expected to join the Russian Armed Forces by 2027. Each aircraft is expected to have a price tag of $25-30 million. In August 2022 the first flight of the new jet was planned for 2024 with mass production starting in 2027 and initial operational capability from 2028 onwards. By the end of 2024, the first flight is scheduled for 2025 or 2026. The program delay may signal the aircraft might be intended to re-equip the Russian Air Force and not only for export customers.
