Description
The French Navy SNLE 3G is a third generation, nuclear-powered ballistic submarine (SSBN) being developed as the replacement for the Le Triomphant class. Little is known about the new boat but should enter into service between 2030 and 2040. In February 2018 Thales was awarded a contract for the research of a new generation sonar system to be concluded in 2021 and to be integrated on the SNLE 3G submarines. The French Ministry of Defense launched the SNLE 3G program in February 2021 with four boats to be delivered between 2035 and 2050. Naval Group and Thales were set as the key contractors for the program. The construction of the fist submarine started on March 20, 2024.
