Description
It is estimated that no more than 200 Type 70-Is were ever manufactured. It was build to fill a gap in self propelled artillery in the Chinese army. It is believed that the Soviet Union assisted in the development and manufacture of the Type 70-I because of the use of the Type 54 cannon which is similar to the M1938 / M-30. The vehicle has no roof and thus no overhead protection for the crew of 6-7 soldiers.

The Type 85 self-propelled 122mm howitzer has a turretless design, based on the YW531H APC chassis. It has the Soviet D-30 howitzer. The maximum range of fire is 21 km. The Type 85 is a significant improvement to its predecessor, however it still lacks gun enclosure.
