Osprey
The Leonardo Osprey is an X-band airborne radar system utilizing a flat-panel antenna design. It features up to four active electronically scanned array (AESA) antennas, each weighing 11.3 kg (25 pounds) and containing 256 Gallium Arsenide transmit and receive modules. These antennas are positioned around the host aircraft, providing 120 degrees of coverage per antenna and operating without moving parts. A single processing unit controls the antennas, collecting and displaying data as a unified radar picture, with modes including surface search, air-to-air, synthetic aperture radar (SAR), and ground moving target indication (GMTI). This radar system, also known by its American designation AN/ZPY-8, has an instrumented range of 200 nautical miles (370 km).
