Watercat M12

The Watercat M12 is a water jet craft designed by Marine Alutech to serve the Finnish Marines as transport and landing ship in all weather conditions. The Finnish Navy ordered the development of this ship in the late 1990s as part of a modernization plan for its coastal defense forces. The resulting Watercat M12 features outstanding maneuverability and the ability to stop almost within one hull length. The first landing craft was delivered to the Finnish Navy in 2000 with 38 units produced so far. The main compartment of Watercat M12 has a seating capacity for 20 fully equipped troops. A bow ramp ensures rapid loading/offloading of cargo and personnel. Powered by two FF 375 jets, each developing 331 kW of power, the craft achieves a top speed in excess of 35 knots. Due to jet propulsion the boat's bottom is perfectly smooth enabling operations in very shallow waters. In addition to the troop transport and landing role, the Watercat M12 can provide fire support utilizing Patria's Nemo 120mm mortar system. Optionally, the Watercat M12 can be equipped with two 12.7mm machine guns.
