New M-Frigate
New M-Frigate

The New M-Frigate is a new surface combatant designed as the replacement for the existing Karel Doorman class frigates for both Belgian and Dutch Navies. The new frigates will feature the Above Water Warfare System (AWWS) fire control cluster including APAR Block 2 and Sea Master 400 radars. The multi-purpose frigate will be armed with a 76mm naval gun, two Marlin 40mm guns, ESSM Block 2 missiles, Rolling Airframe Missiles (RAM) and long-range anti-ship missiles. The flight deck and hangar will enable operations of a single NH90 NFH helicopter and unmanned air vehicles (UAVs). Four ships should be built with each Navy taking two frigates beginning in 2028-2029. In April 2023, Belgium and the Netherlands agree on a $4.4 billion deal for the four frigates to be delivered between 2029 and 2032. The frigates will be equipped with the NSM anti-ship missile and the Mark 54 torpedoes. These vessels are expected to conduct Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) missions.
