Description

The IA-73 is a light military training aircraft being designed and assembled in Argentina by Fabrica Argentina de Aviones SA (FAdeASA or FAdeA) and scheduled to enter service by 2015. FAdeA started the assessment phase of a replacement aircraft for the Mentor basic military trainer operated by the Argentinean Air Force in December 2009. The IA-73 project was launched in September 2010 using the company's own funds and sales planned for the Argentinean Ministry of Defense and export customers worldwide. Universities, research centers and small businesses across the Cordoba region are expected to get involved in this project. The first prototype is expected to be available by 2013 with an estimated development cost of $10 to $12 million.
