Description

The Raytheon-funded Excalibur S is a 155mm artillery shell featuring a dual-mode GPS and laser guidance system. The Excalibur S round is fired with a target assigned by GPS location but can score a direct hit on a different target after being terminally guided with a laser designator. This variant adds a laser spot tracker (LST) to the Excalibur Ib artillery projectile. The new guided projectile is intended to attack moving targets, engage targets that have re-positioned after firing, or change the impact point to further avoid casualties and collateral damage. The first live fire test of the Excalibur S was announced in June 2014.
