Description

The Joint Light Helicopter (HIL) is a military variant of the Airbus H160 helicopter developed to meet the requirements of the French Armed Forces. The new platform has been designated as the H160M Guepard. The aircraft is expected to serve with the French Army, Navy and Air Force replacing five legacy platforms. The aircraft will be powered by two Arrano turboshaft engines with the platform being outfitted with gun pods and missile systems such as Sea Venom. The French Ministry of Defense calls for the procurement of 169 helicopters with the Army taking delivery of 80, the Navy 49 and the Air Force 40. The program was officially launched in May 2019 and the first flight is planned for 2021. The first H160M Guepard helicopter is expected to join the French military by 2026-2027.
