Description
The AN/APQ-170 is a multimode, redundant, dual-band (X-band and Ku-band), forward-looking airborne radar system. Developed specifically for the U.S. Air Force's Lockheed MC-130H Combat Talon II aircraft, it integrates terrain-following and terrain-avoidance features, ground-mapping, weather detection and avoidance, and beacon interrogation modes. The radar has an instrumented range of 50 nautical miles (approximately 92 km) and features two reflector antennas for its different frequency bands, housed under a distinctive nose radome.
