Description

The US Navy C-2 Greyhound is a carrier based transport aircraft developed by Northrop Grumman from the E-2A Hawkeye airborne early warning aircraft. The C-2 performed its maiden flight in 1964 and entered service with the US Navy aircraft carriers in 1966. The twin-engine turboprop cargo aircraft can transport both personnel and equipment at ranges in excess of 2,000 kilometers. The US Navy plans call for the replacement of the C-2A aircraft fleet by the CMV-22 tilt-rotor airplanes in the 2020s with roughly 44 aircraft to be procured beginning in 2020.
