The H-6N is a further development of the H-6K medium bomber modified to support firing of air-launched ballistic missiles (ALBMs). The H-6N internal weapons bay has been removed and the weaponry is carried utilizing external stations underneath its wings (six hard points) and belly (one hard point). Besides, the medium bomber might be intended to launch the DR-8 hypersonic reconnaissance drone as well as the new CH-AS-X-13 hypersonic cruise missile. The H-6N bomber existence was made public in September 2019 and will serve within the People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) as a missile and drone launch platform starting in 2020 or 2021.
