Description

The LAV, also known as Raitoama, is a wheeled 4x4, light armored, high mobility, utility, battlefield liaison and personnel carrier (APC) vehicle manufactured by Komatsu for the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF). The vehicle features a roof hatch which enables the firing of light anti-tank weapons such as Type 01 missile or small caliber firearms such as 7.62mm machine gun. Its light armor provides protection for a 4-man crew against small caliber firearms. Overall, the Japanese LAV is very similar to the Italian Army's Lince and British Army's LMV light armored vehicles.
