Description
The MANPADS VSHORAD is a man-portable surface-to-air missile being developed by MBDA to meet the requirements of the Italian Armed Forces. The new supersonic missile development started in 2023 and features fire-and-forget and all-weather capabilities. The missile’s seeker seems to be based upon infrared imaging (IIR) technology and is intended to engage fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft as well as small drones. The MANPADS VSHORAD missile was unveiled in July 2024 and is expected to be fielded by 2027-2030 as an alternative to the aging Stinger missile. The program was re-designated as the Fulgur in June 2025.
