Description

The Mamba is a 4x4 armored, mine-protected vehicle with a Unimog drive line and seating capacity for up to 11 passengers plus driver. The Mamba Mk III, replacing the Mk II version as production model, is an improved variant with enhanced ballistic protection as well as improved stability and safety. Powered by a 123-hp engine the 6,800 kg Mamba can achieve a top speed on-road of 100 km/h. Basically, the Mamba serves as a high mobility personnel carrier in peacekeeping missions where the main threat is posed by mines and small arms fire. Alvis, now BAE Land Systems OMC of South Africa, has produced over 700 Mambas for the South African National Defense Force (SANDF) and at least 15 international customers.
