F-15EX Eagle II
F-15EX Eagle II
The F-15EX Super Eagle is a two-seat version of the F-15X aircraft. The twin-seat aircraft may be optimized for strike missions potentially being a replacement for the F-15E Strike Eagle. The fiscal year 2020 budget proposal for the US Air Force includes provision for eight F-15EX jets worth $1.1 billion. Both F-15X variants will be powered by either existing F110-GE-129 or F100-PW-229 engines both rated at 29,000 pounds of thrust. The US Air Force plans to buy eight F-15EX jets in 2020 and 72 through 2024 with a final order for 64 additional aircraft to be placed after 2024 for a total fleet of 144 jets. In April 2022, the US Air Force target for the F-15EX aircraft was trimmed down to 80 units. In March 2023, the US Air Force increased the number of Eagle II aircraft to 104.
